Roanoke Island Festival Park Supports Scouts!
Roanoke Island Festival Park is proud to be a community partner of the Boy Scouts of America Tidewater Council and the Girl Scouts of America Council of the Colonial Coast. We offer hands-on activities and programs suitable for scouts and their parents including a new overnight program that fully immerses participants into the 16th century as newly arrived colonists on Roanoke Island.

Girl Scouts of America
The Explore Roanoke Island Festival Park Patch Program is available to all registered Girl Scouts from Daisies to Ambassadors. Girl Scouts and their leaders may self- guide Roanoke Island Festival Park and complete the Take Action component on their own.
GUIDELINES
Girl Scout Levels and their respective requirements for the Explore RIFP Patch:
Daisies
- 1 activity from each Leadership Key
Brownies
- 1 activity from each Leadership Key plus 1 more from any key
Juniors
- 1 activity from each Leadership Key plus 2 more from any key
Cadettes
- 1 activity from each Leadership Key plus 3 more from any key
Seniors
- 1 activity from each Leadership Key plus 4 more from any key
Ambassadors
- 1 activity from each Leadership Key plus 5 more from any key

Scouts and parents wishing to self-guide will need to pay admission to the park. Group rates apply for groups that book in advance with ten or more participants.
2012 - Year of the Girl
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of America, Roanoke Island Festival Park was home site to the Manteo Amazing Race on Saturday March 24th, 2012. During the race, Girl Scouts were able to earn their Explore Roanoke Island Festival Park patch!

Roanoke Island Festival Park will also be part of the Council of the Colonial Coast's Living Trefoil event to kick off Girls Rock the Beach! There will be three trefoils, created from Girl Scouts holding flashlights, in three separate locations, which includes Roanoke Island Festival Park.

Girl Scouts is celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2012. Throughout the year, the Girl Scout Council of the Colonial Coast is displaying exhibitions at local museums and libraries in the region to celebrate this landmark year. These exhibits feature vintage uniforms, handbooks, and program memorabilia.
The exhibition at the Roanoke Island Festival Park is located in the Visitors Center and will include items from Mariner Girl Scouting, which was a special interest, water-based program for Girl Scouts that started in 1934. They had unique blue uniforms and participated in activities such as charting courses, launching ships, and learning about water safety and boating. This exhibition also highlights camping, which is one of the original and current appeals of Girl Scouting. Featuring uniforms, guidebooks, and other camping memorabilia, viewers will get a sense of how camping has changed through the decades.
NEW! Overnight Program
The Roanoke Island Festival Park Overnight Program offers groups a unique opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the sailors, soldiers, and craftsmen who colonized Roanoke Island and the Outer Banks for England in 1585. Program participants will learn information about colonization, but will also get hands-on experience in blacksmithing, wood working, and weaving.
